A recent nationwide survey of Rheumatologists has identified an unmet need in Rheumatology Registrar education with regards to learning musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSK US). Rheumatological US is compulsory in many countries in Europe for Rheumatology training with a minimal number of scans and standard required. MSK US is useful in learning anatomy and understanding rheumatic diseases better by being able to visualise the relevant pathology and disease processes involved. US is also helpful in guiding aspirates and injections. Decision making can be aided by using US such as in diagnosis, monitoring therapy and managing remission.
This weekend course is accredited by the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM) for the Rheumatology Unit Certificate in Clinician Performed Ultrasound (CCPU), with myASUM CPD points awarded to participants. There will be plenty of “hands-on” time under supervision with small groups planned utilising high end US machines with experienced MSK sonographers.
The aim of this course is to expose registrars to MSK US to hopefully continue learning this in their own State under an appropriate supervisor. The course is limited to 16 attendees to maximise the teacher to learner ratio.
This event is targeted to Rheumatology trainees and early career Rheumatology consultants.
