This event features Chris Sykes, sonographer and lawyer in Victoria, who will present an interesting and educational day for ultrasound practitioners in WA:
Sonography, the Law and Professional Practice
(and everything you need to know about vascular sonography)
A portion of the presentations will cover vascular topics. Vascular ultrasound is often poorly understood and poorly performed. Chris will provide participants with tools they can take away to improve their vascular work, or provide a solid foundation upon which to build confidence when performing vascular examinations.
He will also be looking at legal and professional issues facing sonographers and health professionals and you are invited to reflect on your role and obligations. In particular, the session will cover communication techniques, dealing with patients, and legal concepts relevant to health professionals including consent, privacy and negligence.
At the end of the day, attendees will emerge with a better understanding of:
- system settings and pre-sets;
- the importance of clinical information and answering the clinical question;
- how to confidently approach vascular examinations;
- the role of health professionals;
- the importance of communication;
- how to avoid a negligence claim;
- why privacy is important; and
Please note: the session may raise employment issues or issues regarding patient interactions that could be subject to legal proceedings making it difficult to separate into a presentation and separate question and answer sessions. As a result we cannot broadcast nor record the event.
Registration is strictly limited in accordance with COVID-19 social distancing restrictions in place in WA at the time of the event.
