The aim of this workshop is to improve the communications with and care of parents during obstetric ultrasound examinations, in particular in the event of adverse and unexpected findings. It will introduce and explore new guidelines developed by a multidisciplinary team of experts from sonography, obstetrics, and radiology, and present simulated clinical encounters from parents with lived experience for discussion. It will be valuable to sonographers, radiologists, obstetricians, midwives, and all professionals involved in supporting pregnant women.

Target Audience:

The workshop is targeted at Sonographers (both student and qualified), Radiologists, Obstetricians, Specialist Medical Practitioners, Representatives of Ultrasound Professional Bodies, Nurses and Midwives, Psychologists and Counsellors, Social Scientists and Consumers.
Audience members will be expected to be health professionals familiar with obstetric ultrasound and / or be stakeholders in the delivery of unexpected findings from an obstetric ultrasound examination.

This event is a hybrid event, i.e. registrants may attend in-person on campus or live-stream.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify and implement specific strategies to deliver parent-centred communication related to the obstetric ultrasound examination.
